SOLAR WATCH: Sun Unleashes M3.3 Solar Flare And Coronal Mass Ejection - Could Deliver Glancing Blow To Earth And Trigger Polar Geomagnetic Storms!

August 18, 2013 - SPACE - According to NOAA analysts, a CME hurled into space by an M-class solar flare on August 17th will probably miss Earth.

Attached image by SDO shows a jet of plasma released by 1818 in the aftermath of the initial M3.3 flare. The Solar-X-Rays are currently above the moderate M-Class threshold as the region continues to reverberate.

The M3.3 solar flare was associated with a 10cm Radio Burst (TenFlare) lasting 25 minutes and measuring 150 solar flux units. Type II and IV sweep frequency events were also detected, including a Type II radio emission with a velocity of 1399 km/s.

WATCH: Long Duration M3.3 Solar Flare - August 17, 2013.

SUMMARY: 10cm Radio Burst
Begin Time: 2013 Aug 17 1908 UTC
Maximum Time: 2013 Aug 17 1915 UTC
End Time: 2013 Aug 17 1933 UTC
Duration: 25 minutes
Peak Flux: 150 sfu
Latest Penticton Noon Flux: 120 sfu
Description: A 10cm radio burst indicates that the electromagnetic burst associated with a solar flare at the 10cm wavelength was double or greater than the initial 10cm radio background. This can be indicative of significant radio noise in association with a solar flare. This noise is generally short-lived but can cause interference for sensitive receivers including radar, GPS, and satellite communications.

ALERT:
 Type II Radio Emission

Begin Time: 2013 Aug 17 1856 UTC
Estimated Velocity: 1399 km/s
Description: Type II emissions occur in association with eruptions on the sun and typically indicate a coronal mass ejection is associated with a flare event.

ALERT:
 Type IV Radio Emission

Begin Time: 2013 Aug 17 1909 UTC
Description: Type IV emissions occur in association with major eruptions on the sun and are typically associated with strong coronal mass ejections and solar radiation storms.

However, Earth will pass through the wake of the CME after the cloud itself passes by. This could trigger polar geomagnetic storms despite the CME being off-target. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras on August 20-21.

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) photographed the CME billowing away from the sun's southwestern limb on August 17th.

Standard Lasco C2 image with a bright CME now visible.

A coronal mass ejection is shown in the latest coronagraph imagery released by STEREO Ahead.
Two questions remain. How large will it be and will there be an Earth directed component.

Attached is an impressive Earth facing image released by Lasco C2 showing a very bright Coronal
Mass Ejection (CME). A majority of the ejected plasma looks to be directed southwest,
however an Earth directed component is possible.

Sunspot 1818 will remain the largest threat for another isolated M-Class event while it holds on to its delta magnetic configuration. Sunspot 1817 continues to shrink in both size and magnetic complexity as it rotates towards the southwest limb. New sunspot 1824 grew quickly on Saturday and is currently a beta magnetic region. Separation between the leader and trailer spots is being observed. A new sunspot rotated into view off the southeast limb and will be assigned a number today. So far it appears to be stable. The source of a long duration C-Class flare Saturday morning is now just beginning to rotate into view off the northeast limb.

Sunspot AR1818 has a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for strong flares.

A minor glancing blow at best will be possible by August 20th as the eastern flank of the plasma clouds possibly sweeps past Earth.

Researchers explain magnetic field misbehavior in solar flares

Via phys.org, 22 April 2013 - When a solar flare filled with charged particles erupts from the sun, its magnetic fields sometime break a widely accepted rule of physics. The flux-freezing theorem dictates that the magnetic lines of force should flow away in lock-step with the particles, whole and unbroken. Instead, the lines sometimes break apart and quickly reconnect in a way that has mystified astrophysicists.

Researchers explain magnetic field misbehavior in solar flares
New research led by a Johns Hopkins mathematical physicist focuses on the "misbehavior" of magnetic fields in solar flares. In this image, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) captured an X1.2 class solar flare, peaking on May 15, 2013. Credit: NASA/SDO

But in a paper published in the May 23 issue of the journal Nature, an interdisciplinary research team led by a Johns Hopkins mathematical physicist says it has found a key to the mystery. The culprit, the group proposed, is turbulence—the same sort of violent disorder that can jostle a passenger jet when it occurs in the atmosphere. Using complex computer modeling to mimic what happens to magnetic fields when they encounter turbulence within a solar flare, the researchers built their case, explaining why the usual rule did not apply.

"The flux-freezing theorem often explains things beautifully," said Gregory Eyink, a Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics professor who was lead author of the Nature study. "But in other instances, it fails miserably. We wanted to figure out why this failure occurs."

The flux-freezing theorem was developed 70 years ago by Hannes Alfvén, who later won a Nobel Prize in physics for closely related work. His principle states that magnetic lines of force are carried along in a moving fluid like strands of thread cast into a river, and thus they can never "break" and reconnect. But scientists have discovered that within violent solar flares, the principle does not always hold true. Studies of these flares have determined that their magnetic field lines sometimes do break like stretched rubber bands and reconnect in as little as 15 minutes, releasing vast amounts of energy that power the flare.

"But the flux-freezing principle of modern plasma physics implies that this process in the solar corona should take a million years!" Eyink said. "A big problem in astrophysics is that no one could explain why flux-freezing works in some cases but not others."

Some scientists suspected that turbulence was playing havoc with the behavior predicted by this principle. To find out, Eyink teamed up with other experts in astrophysics, mechanical engineering, data management and computer science, based at Johns Hopkins and other institutions. "By necessity, this was a highly collaborative effort," Eyink said. "Everyone was contributing their expertise. No one person could have accomplished this."

The team developed a computer simulation to replicate what happens under various conditions to the charged particles that exist in a plasma state of matter within solar flares.

"Our answer was very surprising," Eyink said. "Magnetic flux-freezing no longer holds true when the plasma becomes turbulent. Most physicists expected that flux-freezing would play an even larger role as the plasma became more highly conducting and more turbulent, but, as a matter of fact, it breaks down completely. In an even greater surprise, we found that the motion of the magnetic field lines becomes completely random. I do not mean 'chaotic,' but instead as unpredictable as quantum mechanics. Rather than flowing in an orderly, deterministic fashion, the magnetic field lines instead spread out like a roiling plume of smoke."

Although some scholars may still believe there are other explanations for solar flares, Eyink said, "I think we made a pretty compelling case that turbulence alone can account for field-line breaking."

The way the researchers from different disciplines teamed up with Eyink to solve the solar flare puzzle was particularly noteworthy.

"We used ground-breaking new database methods, like those employed in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, combined with high-performance computing techniques and original mathematical developments," he said. "The work required a perfect marriage of physics, mathematics and computer science to develop a fundamentally new approach to performing research with very large datasets."

Eyink added that the research could lead to a better understanding of solar flares and mass ejections of material from the sun's corona. Such powerful "space weather" or geomagnetic storms can endanger astronauts, knock out communications satellites and even lead to massive blackouts of electrical power grids on Earth, he said.

Major explosion on sun raises Atlantic event chances - Update from Climate risk Scientist Doctor Simon Atkins

Because of a number of recent events, such as the X-ray flux M5.0 magnitude explosion on the sun from sunspot AR1745, and the power outage in Vietnam which impacted millions, Doctor Simon Atkins has raised the probability of an event in the North Atlantic from 38% to 62%.

"SIGNIFICANT EXPLOSION: A solar radiation storm is in progress on May 22nd following an M5-class solar flare on the sun's western limb. The explosion not only accelerated a hailstorm of protons toward our planet, but also produced a magnificent CME, which might deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field in the days ahead." - spaceweather.com

As you can see in the animation above, there is a double eruption.

"Strong Radiation Storm: A Radiation Storm reaching the Strong S3 Level is currently in progress. Energetic Protons continue to stream past Earth following a strong solar flare on Wednesday morning." - solarham.net

The radiation level is at S3 out of a possible 5. The definition of an S 3 from NOAA is the following,

Biological: radiation hazard avoidance recommended for astronauts on EVA; passengers and crew in high-flying aircraft at high latitudes may be exposed to radiation risk.***

Satellite operations: single-event upsets, noise in imaging systems, and slight reduction of efficiency in solar panel are likely.

Other systems: degraded HF radio propagation through the polar regions and navigation position errors likely.

The GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) satellite went down as a result of the recent explosion on the Sun.

Sun Slings Four Major X-Class Solar Flares in 48 Hours (Video)

Solar Flare
The past 48 hours has been busy for our sun. The closest star to Earth has hurled a total of four major X-class solar flares into the depths of space as activity amps up for the end of the 2013 solar cycle peak. The past 48 hours has been busy for our sun. The closest star to Earth has hurled a total of four X-class solar flares into the depths of space as activity amps up for the peak of the 11-year solar cycle in 2013.
Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation that can sling the harmful material through space toward Earth. Fortunately, this radiation cannot pass through our atmosphere to impact humans on the ground. However, it can sometimes disturb the atmosphere enough so that it disrupts radio signals.
Like hurricanes, solar flares are classified based on their intensity. The weakest are known as A-class flares, followed by B, then C and M. The strongest solar flares are labeled X-class flares, and can pose a risk to astronauts and satellites in orbit when aimed directly at Earth. In order to categorize the strength of these flares within their classes, though, researchers also give them numbers. The higher the number, the stronger the flare is.
The first flare occurred on Mother's Day, May 13. A comparatively demure X1.7 flare, it was associated with a coronal mass ejection (CME). This solar phenomenon can send billions of tons of solar particles into space that can reach other planetary bodies days after the initial burst. When directed toward Earth, these CMEs can disrupt satellites and can supercharge the northern lights, creating spectacular displays. In fact, a solar flare that occurred in April did just that, sparking a geomagnetic storm that produced an impressive light show.
The second solar flare that the sun flung into space was a stronger X2.8-class flare, which was also associated with a CME. Experimental NASA models showed that solar particles sped from the sun at a terrific 1,200 miles per second. It was the strongest flare to have occurred all year--until the third flare came along.
The third solar flare occurred on the evening on May 13 and was classified as a X3.2 flare. It's the strongest to have occurred all year and also hurled a CME into space. Fortunately for us, none of these CMEs are Earth-directed, which means that they won't be causing issues with satellites.
The sun wasn't done yet, though. It ejected its fourth and final solar flare in the early morning hours of May 15. The X1-class flare was comparatively tiny to the other ones that the sun had belched out, but it shows that our star is currently more active than it has been in a long while. In fact, NOAA forecasters estimate a 50 percent chance of X-class solar flares and an 80 percent chance of M-class solar flares on May 15, according to spaceweather.com.
"These are spectacular events," said Robert Massey from the UK's Royal Astronomical Society in an interview with BBC News. "An X-class flare is equivalent to a billion hydrogen bombs. We're talking about a colossal amount of energy."
Until the sun reaches its solar peak at the end of 2013, though, we're likely to continue to see these spectacular events into the near future.

Sun releases another powerful Solar Flare with an X-ray Flux of X2.9 - Largest flare for 2013

Via transients.info

A day later, we have yet another record breaking solar flare for 2013. Yesterday I posted the following entry, 'Sun releases a powerful Solar Flare with an X-ray Flux of X1.8 - Largest flare for 2013' which discussed that subject in question along with information on past strong solar flares.

So is this flare Earth facing? The CME occurred on the west side of the sun, which is rotating towards the Earth. if these strong solar flares continue and as the Sun rotates around and the area they are erupting from faces us, thats when we should be paying a bit more attention.

This is yesterdays X1.8 solar flare above. You can find the animation of the event for yesterday here, http://spaceweather.com/images2013/13may13/xflare_anim2.gif

Credit to spaceweather.com

The above picture shows the location of where the flaring activity started yesterday.

By my estimation, going by this website here, http://noschese180.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/day-145-how-does-the-sun-rotate/, I expect this area of the Sun where all this activity is occuring, to be fully facing the Earth within five to seven days time. That time frame would be from the 19th of may to the 21st of May.

I am just going to leave it at that for this one. =)

Space Weather updates - Ring of Fire Solar Eclipse, bushy filament of magnetism update, M-Class Solar Flare

Via spaceweather.com, 11 May 2013 M-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: A sunspot located just behind the sun's northeastern limb erupted during the early hours of May 10th, producing an M3-class solar flare. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the explosion's extreme ultraviolet flash: movie. The farside active region will turn toward Earth in the days ahead, so stay tuned.

"RING OF FIRE" SOLAR ECLIPSE: As the sun rose over Australia on Friday morning, May 10th, the solar disk turned into a ring of fire. The day began with an annular solar eclipse:

Nicole Hollenbeck took the picture from inside the narrow path of annularity about 70km south of Newman, Australia. At the time, more than 95% of the sun's diameter was covered by the Moon.

In an annular eclipse the Moon is not quite big enough to cover the entire solar disk. A blinding ring of solar fire juts out around the Moon, overwhelming the sun's delicate corona. It may not be the same as totality, but annularity has a charm and beauty all its own. Browse the gallery for more images from the eclipse zone.

SPECTACULAR PROMINENCE, GONE: For the past few days, astronomers around the world have been monitoring a bushy filament of magnetism dancing along the sun's western limb. Sergio Castillo of Inglewood CA photographed the structure on May 9th just before it collapsed:

"OMG! This giant prominence was one of the most spectacular I have ever witnessed," says Castillo. "Yesterday, however, it collapsed on its own magnetic field and nothing remains of it."

The filament has disappeared from the sun, but all 250,000 km of it may still be found in the space weather photo gallery.

Sun Update: Solar Flare Eruption at the South-East of the Sun SDO-AIA 304 – April.24,2013

When the moon shall have faded out from the sky, and the sun shall shine at noonday a dull cherry red, and the seas shall be frozen over, and the icecap shall have crept downward to the equator from either pole . . . when all the cities shall have long been dead and crumbled into dust, and all life shall be on the last verge of extinction on this globe; then, on a bit of lichen, growing on the bald rocks beside the eternal snows of Panama, shall be seated a tiny insect, preening its antennae in the glow of the worn-out sun, the sole survivor of animal life on this our earth — a melancholy bug.

To believe in a child is to believe in the future. Through their aspirations they will save the world. With their combined knowledge the turbulent seas of hate and injustice will be calmed. They will champion the causes of life’s underdogs, forging a society without class discrimination. They will supply humanity with music and beauty as it has never known. They will endure. Towards these ends I pledge my life’s work. I will supply the children with tools and knowledge to overcome the obstacles. I will pass on the wisdom of my years and temper it with patience. I shall impact in each child the desire to fulfill his or her dream. I shall teach.

solar flare is a sudden brightening observed over the Sun‘s surface or the solar limb, which is interpreted as a large energy release of up to 6 × 1025 joules of energy (about a sixth of the total energy output of the Sun each second or 160,000,000,000 megatons of TNT equivalent, over 25,000 times more energy than released from the impact of Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 with Jupiter). They are mainly followed by a colossal coronal mass ejection also known as a CME.[1] The flare ejects clouds of electrons, ions, and atoms through the corona of the sun into space. These clouds typically reach Earth a day or two after the event.[2] The term is also used to refer to similar phenomena in other stars, where the term stellar flare applies.

Biggest Solar Flare of the Year Knocks Out Radio Transmissions

Massive solar flare captured as it erupts at 3:16 p.m. EDT on April 11, 2013.
(Credit: NASA/SDO)
Early this morning the sun erupted, sending billions of solar particles into space at over 600 miles per second, raising the prospect of solar radiation storms above the Earth, according to NASA. A spokesman said the resulting emissions sparked a short-lived radio communications blackout on Earth. The radio disruption has since subsided. The appearance of the strongest solar storm of 2013 is part of an increasingly common sight as astronomers say this is connected to the sun's 11-year activity cycle. More intense solar eruptions are expected later in the year.

How Recent Solar Flares Are Affecting Humans

Recently we are experiencing an intensive amount of solar activity on the Sun which is affecting both the Earth and Humans.

solar flare

Exactly what is a solar flare and how does it affect us?

A solar flare is a magnetic storm on the Sun which appears to be a very bright spot and a gaseous surface eruption such as in the above photograph.  Solar flares release huge amounts of high-energy particles and gases that are tremendously hot.  They are ejected thousands of miles from the surface of the Sun.

According to Mitch Battros – Earth Changes Media, “One of the best known prophecies/predictions of our Mayan elders is the message of a changing paradigm of our era.  In the words of the Maya, it is said that we are now in a time of “change and conflict”.  The change is coming from the ‘outside” in the way of weather, natural phenomena, celestial disturbance (sun flares) and manmade self-inflicted trauma.  The conflict comes from the ‘inside’ in the way of personal challenge, grief, bewilderment, depression, anxiety, and fear.  It is said we are “at the cross roads”.  A time of choosing a new path, deciding on a new self and community direction, venturing into the unknown, finding our true identity of being.  Others will choose to stay on the same road, stay with the familiar, and place great effort to maintain “predictability.”

There appears to be a direct connection between the Sun’s solar storms and human biological effect especially after an "M" class solar flare.  The conduit which facilitates the charged particles from the Sun to human disturbance is the very same conduit which steers Earth’s weather through the Magnetic Field on Earth, and also through the magnetic fields around humans.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wind storms appear to happen after strong solar activity on the sun.

Geomagnetic Activity on the Sun Influences our Thoughts
I have noticed in my own research that solar activity is known to influence human consciousness.  Solar flares affect the Central Nervous System (stomach lining), all brain activity (including equilibrium), along with human behaviour and all psycho-physiological (mental-emotional-physical) response.  Solar flares can cause us to be nervous, anxiousness, worrisome, jittery, dizzy, shaky, irritable, lethargic, exhausted, have short term memory problems and heart palpitations, feel nauseous, queasy, and to have prolonged head pressure and headaches. Do you have any of the above lately?  I am hearing from people in Canada, the U.S., South America, Japan, Greece, Malta, Belgium, Sweden, the UK, Australia etc. that all report the symptoms that I address after an episode of high solar flare activity.  I have also experienced these symptoms myself as have many of my clients.  Scientists don't seem to be addressing this, but we all know it is  real as we are experiencing it first hand.

The solar flares and photon waves are changing the fabric of our physical reality as they have a powerful effect on our physical cellular level, causing our cellular memories to awaken and clear.  We often experience this as the body heating up in the form of “hot flashes.”  Our lower emotions are low frequency energy stored in our cells from past experiences and traumas that we have encountered and never processed —so they become stored as cellular memories.  Photon energy is a much higher frequency energy that pulls up the lower emotional frequency so it can calibrate to the higher frequency.... thus we find ourselves releasing these lower emotions of sadness and grief without knowing why.   These spells will last for about twenty minutes and we are left wondering where these feelings came from out of the blue. The elements of our blueprint are interfaced in the cellular consciousness and when the blueprint is amplified through photon energies various elements of the blueprint leak into your consciousness and we begin to remember our soul’s purpose. We are pulled to make changes in our life but we don’t really realize why.

The interesting fact about this energy is that since it is of a higher frequency it creates the power of instant manifestation of our thoughts, which means whatever we think, we create instantly.  This never before happened in our lifetime and that is why many people are writing books on the subject on the Power of Attraction.

Photonic energy connects to our thoughts so it is important that we know what we want, rather than we don’t want, otherwise, we will manifest more of what we don’t want.  If you are in the process of change and transformation this energy works well for you.  On the other hand, if you are stuck in the past through victimization and anger, you will simply manifest more reasons to remain stuck in victimization until you are ready to release it.

The Effects of Recent Solar Flares
Many people are feeling agitated and un-easy recently. The solar flares can break apart old patterns of thought that are no longer needed so new ones can emerge. This can make us feel hyper and exhausted all at the same time. It can also wreak havoc with technology such as computers.

We began noticing many new symptoms. Time and space appear to  on a wobble even more erratically than before. We seem to be losing track of time easily. We lose words when we are speaking. The day simply disappears. We are not sleeping very well . . . again. There is lots of tossing and turning in the night and many are having unusual dreams. We are feeling huge power surges in the body followed by energy drops. There were many reports of nausea, and body aches and pains and dizziness. Many feel deep grief. Some feel like they were walking on water (ungrounded). Others said that when they closed their eyes at night, everything is spinning. There have been visual disturbances, inner ear issues, ringing in ears, throat and thyroid issues, cold feet and even a weird symptom of having tongue dryness. Are you experiencing any of this?  This isn't anything to be afraid of ... just be aware of what it is and get extra rest and drink lots of water.  This too shall pass.

Note:  If you are feeling interenal heat sensations from the solar flares, I am interested in hearing from you as I am doing research on this symptom.

Are you feeling a bit anxious and out of sorts today? Send me an email and let me know  how these solar flalres are effecting you.

 Feb. 12, 2013 Report from Spaceweather.com
SLIGHT CHANCE OF STORMS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 15% of polar geomagnetic storms on Feb. 12th when a solar wind stream is expected to brush against Earth's magnetic field. Debris from a magnetic filament that erupted on the sun a few days ago might also arrive, further boosting the odds of auroras around the Arctic Circle

NEW E-BOOK "HOW SOLAR FLARES HELP YOU TO EVOLVE" IS FINALLY READY. YOU CAN PURCHASE IT BY CLICKING ON THE FOLLOWING LINK. http://store.carliniinstitute.com
This e-book is compiled through the research done over the past year on the affects of solar flares on us by Heather Carlini C.M.Ht. It shows the positive affects of what is happening to us even though we go through some turmoil in the process.

From Heather... be sure to drink extra waterwhen we are having solar flares. The reason is that it takes extra water from the brain to process these energies. I also suggest vitamin B complex and a product from the health food store called Curamin as this helps.  Omega 3 is also needed at this time.
Cut back on caffeine as it revves up the nervous system even more during high solar activity.  Also for upset stomach, tap on the cheekbones on both sides of the face just under the eyes as this helps release energy blockages in the stomach.

I continue to do intensive research on the solar flare effects on people and I am now asking anyone who is experiencing vertigo/dizziness to contact me. Also if you are experiening spells of the face going red I want to hear about this also along any other different symptoms you have never experienced before. I am hearing from people around the world. If you write me, please tell me where you are from. Thanks everyone for your help with my research. P.S. I am receiving emails about skin inflammation during solar flares. . Also if you are feeling electrical shocks in the body or a feeling of vibration I would like to hear from you with any different symptoms you are experiencing at this time.  Thanks.   heathercarlini@carliniinstitute.com

Earth Bound Disaster Imminent? Less Than 4 Weeks Away?

A bit from The Sun’s story:

A GIANT explosion of energy from the Sun could paralyse Earth in just three years’ time, scientists warned yesterday.

They fear a huge solar flare is due to erupt in 2013 — causing blackouts and global chaos.

The once-in-a-century disaster could see power grids crash, communication systems collapse, planes grounded, food supplies hit and the internet shut down.

Everything from home freezers to car sat navs would be affected.

The disaster could mirror the Great Solar Flare of 1859.
