(Jan 21) Assumption Parish officials said the most recent bubbling site near the Bayou Corne sinkhole in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, is the biggest pool they have seen yet. Office of Emergency Preparedness workers refer to it as the “mother of all bubbles.” The new bubbling site is an estimated 3,000 feet away from residences and camps. (Source)

(Jan 19) A 20-by-20 hole opened up in a parking lot at 4525 S. Wasatch Blvd in Holladay, Utah. The tire of a nearby car was caught on the edge of the hole, but there was no one was in the vehicle at the time. Fire crews estimate it’s about 8 to 10 feet deep. (Source)

(Jan 16) A hole opened up on the State Street bridge in Bangor, Maine. It is 5 square feet on the surface, but widens below ground. It is 5 feet deep, 15 feet long and 15 feet wide under the road’s surface. (Source)

(Jan 15) A large sinkhole swallowed up an SUV and closed down a road on Long Island in New York. The sinkhole in Smithtown was reported Tuesday morning by the driver of the SUV whose car got stuck in it. No injuries have been reported. (Source)

(Jan 14) The land in a Chinese village is quite literally disappearing before the residents’ eyes with large sinkholes swallowing up vast spaces. In the past five months villagers from Lianyuan in southern China’s Hunan Province have been left alarmed after seeing over 20 holes suddenly open up in the ground. (Source)

(Jan 14) An entire car was swallowed by a massive crater in under two minutes in the city of Campo Grande in Brazil. Luckily, the driver managed to get out in time. The area where the sinkhole appeared have been deluged by heavy rains and persistent flooding for several weeks. (Source)

(Jan 11) A woman had to be rescued in a sidewalk collapse on the Upper East Side Friday night. Fire officials on the scene said a very heavy woman fell seven feet below the street when the sidewalk gave way in front of 301 E. 60th St., by Second Avenue in New York City. (Source)

(Jan 11) The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection confirmed Friday nearly 2,500 gallons of raw sewage leaked into the Susquehanna River last week after large sinkholes formed on North 4th Street.
